Hyderabad, Oct. 7:
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s
action on cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines will depend on the carrier’s
response to its show-cause notice served on Friday, Union Minister for Civil
Aviation Ajit Singh said here today.
The regulator had slapped a show cause notice on
the airlines, asking why its flying licence should not be cancelled or
suspended as it had grounded its fleet and failed to offer safe and reliable
service.
“It is now up to them (Kingfisher Airlines) to
reply to the DGCA and satisfy all the concerns about operational safety and
reliability,” he told mediapersons on the sidelines of an event here.
Asked whether the carrier’s licence would be
cancelled, the Minister said it depended on the airline’s reply to the DGCA
notice.
“Our action will depend on the reply that the
carrier gives within the stipulated time period,” he said.
He added that the airlines would have to come
out with a concrete plan on how it would mobilise funds to get back on its
feet.
Singh described as unfortunate the alleged
suicide by the wife of a Kingfisher Airline due to financial problems in the
wake of non-payment of salaries.
“They (Kingfisher employees) had been working
for the last several months, hoping that the airlines will be revived and they
would retain their jobs,” he pointed out.
