A
SpiceJet aircraft hit an electric pole at Indira Gandhi International Airport
here just before take off on Thursday evening resulting in its left wing
getting damaged.
For
its part, the airline called it a minor accident and has ordered an internal
investigation into the case.
According
to sources, the left wing of the SpiceJet’s Boeing 737-800, which operates on
the Delhi-Hyderabad route, hit an electric pole on the runway after which the
take-off had to be aborted. The passengers had to remain inside the aircraft
for two hours before a replacement aircraft was provided. The flight finally
took off from Delhi airport around 9-25 p.m.
“We
are carrying out an internal investigation in the matter. We would like to
reiterate that for SpiceJet, safety of its passengers is of utmost importance,”
said a statement from the airlines.
