Mumbai, Dec. 3:
In a further blow to the beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), the
cash-strapped carrier may have to vacate the space occupied at Terminal 1A at
Mumbai Airport.
The Mumbai airport authorities may issue an eviction notice after the
grounded carrier failed to respond to an earlier notice asking it to clear the
Rs 22 crore dues towards parking and navigational charges, according to airport
sources.
“We haven’t heard from Kingfisher Airlines yet. They were given a week’s
time to clear the dues, but they have not responded to the notice,” said a
source.
Kingfisher Airlines did not respond to a query sent to them.
The airline that has been grounded since October 1 occupies about 19,000
square feet space in the airport’s Terminal IA.
Kingfisher has been grounded since October 1 following a strike by its
pilots and engineers over non-payment of salary.
The airline owes Rs 7,000 crore to the consortium of 17 banks, with SBI
alone accounting for Rs 1,200 crore. Bankers said that they would take a
decision on giving further funds to the cash-starved airline only after owner
Mallya infuses capital.
